Planning Vacation

I like planning vacations. I am not sure why, but I tend to get excited about going on vacations, but then I guess so does most people. I usually like to maximize my time when I am on vacation, going to as many places as I can, and filling out my day as much as possible. However, that usually left me quite tired during and after the vacation, and as working hours become longer and longer, and job related pressure becomes higher, it is harder and harder to go on vacation that are too jam packed. I realize that, and I try to plan my vacation to be a little more relaxed, but it is often hard for me to do so, and I will obsess over how I should fill out the empty slots during the time that I am on vacation. For god sake, I have a spreadsheet that is arranged in 30 minutes blocks for the vacation that I am going on in 2 weeks in order to schedule my activities, that is crazy.

I have been reading up on information as to my planned vacation, the cities that I will be going to (just San Francisco actually - or more accurately, Napa and Sonoma County), and the things to do there. This is my spare time reading for the moment, and other leisurely reading can wait until after or during the vacation, when I am not so busy planning my vacation. I think though, I obsess too much over the details, since I want everything to be perfect. The last vacation I planned was ok, read through a lot of material, know where to go, but I didn't take into account many factors that will make the vacation better. Some of these factors include travel time in cars, traffic jams, jetlag, foreign country's daily behavior (such as having a slow paced lunch for 2 hours that really push back plans), and the distance between each sight. I am trying to be more careful this time around, and try to leave more gaps in between each activities, and more open-ended options, so at least the pace should be leisurely and when executing my vacation plan, it will go much smoother. I guess we will see if it works out.

I really do love planning vacations, probably the most exciting thing going on in my life right now (that could be kind of sad though . . . .)
