Harrison's Cooking and Cheval des Andes 2001
This past Saturday night I had quite a treat. First, I got to visit my friend Harrison and Emma's apartment, where they tore the entire place apart when Harrison bought it and redone the whole place. It was very nicely decorated and done. Their kitchen is one made for cooking, and their living room looks very spacious and comfortable. Second, I got to enjoy Harrison's cooking, man, that man has talents. Everyone can follow recipes, but then not everyone can make the food made from the same recipe taste the same and taste good. He made us a delicious salad, which I am trying to get my hands on his recipe (apparently this is one of his signature dish), and also, he made us this pork tenderloin and is seared and then cooked in the oven that taste so tender and flavorful. I am also trying to get a recipe for that too, hopefully he can send it to me soon. I ate so much of the pork tenderloin that night, can't get enough of the good stuff.
We paired the good food with a bottle of Argentina wine, called Cheval des Andes 2001 Vistalba Mendoza. It is made of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Malbec. This is a joint venture between the famed Chateau Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux and Terrazas de Los Andes, a big winemaker down in Argentina. For those of you that likes the movie Sideways, Cheval Blanc is the wine that Miles really treasured but end up drinking it out of a foam cup in a fast food joint. The wine tasted soft and supple, with a silky touch on your tongue. I do not think the wine is complex, and seems a bit one-dimensional, but provide good texture, aroma and it just tastes good. Flavor of blueberry, plum and black currant with sweet tannins that leaves a pleasant and sweet aftertaste. Also, went pretty well with the food, so it was overall a very good and satisfying meal.
After the meal, decided to go and watch a movie, choose MI: III, and I had three observations: (1) the movie sucks and kind of drags on, (2) Maggie Q looks old, and not very pretty and (3) Tom Cruise's signature smile still looks pretty good, haven't changed since Cocktail.
