Prado Museum - Diego and Picasso
While I was in the Prado Museum in Madrid, I saw a really cute / interesting painting combination. The first picture is the painting by Diego Velazquez titled Las Meninas, a fairly famous painting. During that time, the Prado has a temporary Picasso exhibit, and directly on the opposite side of Las Meninas, hung Picasso's interpretation of the Las Meninas, as shown by the second picture. I couldn't get a close enough shot of the Picasso's version, since we were not allowed to take picture in the Picasso's section, but are ok to take pictures in the regular exhibits, not so sure why. Anyway, you probably cannot see very clearly the Picasso's version, but let me just tell you, it is quite funny. Some of the figures, like the dog and the servant on the very right hand side of the picture, were drawn as sort of stick figures by Picasso. It is just amusing how they hung the two paintings on the opposite side of each other. I actaully did not notice it at first, but once I discovered it, really was quite a highlight of my entire Prado visit. By the way, the Prado is kind of small . . . . . . .
