Football Fever
So the world has football (or soccer, if you are in the US) fever nowadays, because of the World Cup. I saw a bit of the game while I was in Europe, and some of the bars can be a little rowdy. Now that I have moved to HK, it is much of the same. On game nights, people fill up all the bars just to watch the game (and to have a drink too as well of course). I saw the US v. Ecuador game in this place called California in Lan Kwai Fong and it was kind of fun. I am not a fan of football by any means, as I like high scoring games like basketball, but probably because of the environment in California, and the fact that I have really watched quite a bit of football lately, it was actually kind of fun. Some of the things that I saw people do in HK for the game are pretty funny. On my first day working, I went to a bowling event on the firm, with the bowling alley located in a mall. Inside the mall, huge screen set up, with certain sections blocked off for lazy boy lounge chairs, another section has foot massages, and the rest of the section was filled with folding chairs. People just congregate at the mall and watched the game. I think you have to pay to get a sit, with of course, the more comfortable seat been more expensive. Obviously, you don't have to sit down as you can just kind of hang around and watch the game. I thought this is pretty interesting, a sight that I have seen before and would never happen in the US for a soccer match. Another funny thing that I saw can be demonstrated by the picture attached. There were several people dressed up as David Beckham, and there is also a guy dressed in drag as Victoria Beckham (in the picture on the very left). Haha, I think they were popular that night, as many people were snapping pictures of them, myself included. The Beckham's got a little rowdy at the end, and I think one of them was quite drunk and had to be dragged home by his two Beckham buddies. They certainly made the night more interesting.
